Why problem solving? This year our team have seen the biggest demand on our service to aid problem solving in situations/ Spanish systems for clients and their families.
Delivering a care service is so much more than ensuring a client receives personal care. Our office team works tirelessly liaising with doctors, updating prescriptions, liaising with hospitals and arranging ambulances on a daily basis. Our carers have a varied skill set and adapt daily to ever changing needs of our clients. The challenges faced daily as a home carer are accessing clients homes, finding addresses which can be tricky in this area (as some streets have 2 different addresses) and the travel to and from clients homes on roads that can be busy with tourists. Delays can happen when visits run over time if there are client emergencies whilst carers are there, or when there are issues on the roads. As a team the carers support each other and provide the best care possible for our service users.
Some of the situations we have supported this year have been, e.g.
- Keeping family contact especially when families live in different countries
- Organising notary appointments for power of attorney and inheritance management
- Benefit reviews and applications
- Advocating for clients wishes and needs with other services
- Adult protection and assessment, liaising and working in partnership with local services like police and social work to protect individuals and the local community
- Referral and acquiring a care home bed or supporting a move back to country of origin
- Restoring health benefits entitlements in Spain that had been cancelled
- Supporting replacement of lost documents and updating required documents like SIP cards
- Organising emergency house repairs, helping clients manage bills and supplies
